Primary Mini-Olympics

Wednesday, 24. February 2010 by cgray

Olympics 10 019The primary students spent January and February exploring the olympics. With the 2010 Winter Olympics being so close to home a special effort was made to bring the games home to our students. The students participated in an opening ceremony with dignitaries, Kim Boetcher, Gord Klassen and Mrs. Gilbert carrying in the torch. We learned about the significance of the rings, olympic flag, mascots, the beginning of the games as well as a variety of sporting events. Students got a chance to explore a modified version of Bobsledding, the Biathalon, Curling, Long Track endurance and Figure Skating (dance) in multiage groupings each week. At the closing ceremony, with the entire school, students paraded in waving their team colours and wearing with their medals, to form the rings. We all had a lot of exercise, a lot of fun and each student showed great sense of unity and sportsmanship. Each of us, went home a winner ! Mr. G. Spelsberg long time teacher at CM Finch spends his final teaching days with the staff and students at Finch. Always a good sport Mr. Spelsberg who is well known around the district for his participation with sports teams, track and field and the district track meet spends his final afternoon with a house full of costumed students. A member of countless local clubs but especially known for being a founder of the sub zero running club. Mr. Spelsberg will be missed by everyone, but we know he won’t stop moving. Give him a wave if you see him running by your house some Wednesday night.

The C. M.
